FISH BONEFISH, KEY LARGO, FLORIDA

Bonefish fishing with Reel Chaos Charters!

BONEFISH CHARTERS IN KEY LARGO, FLORIDA

Captain Mitch can can tell you, "Pound for pound Bonefish are one of the best fighting fish in the sea!!!"

Bonefish are a very highly prized gamefish in Florida.  Bonefish are fast swimmers and a challenge to catch.  They are most often caught with a spinning reel or fly fishing,  but they can also be caught off the bottoms in the deeper flats.  When you hook a bonefish in shallow water, be prepared for an exciting long running fight.

Bonefish can be caught all year round in the Florida Keys.  The  optimum months for bonefish fishing are March through October.  The food quality of the bonefish is so-so, they have lots of bones and are edible, but there are lots of better quality food fish in the sea, so catching and releasing bonefish is the best  practice for preserving them for future exciting sport fishing experiences.

  • Bonefish mature when they are 3 to 4 years old and are about 18 inches long
  • The most common weights caught are from 2 to 10 lbs
  • The fully grown adult bonefish can grow as long as three feet and weigh up into the mid to upper-teens
  • Bonefish have been known to live as long as 23 years
  • Other names Bonefish are known as are: the Grey Ghost, the Silver Ghost, White Fox or Macabi
  • Bonefish can be caught with live shrimp, chopped shrimp and crabs while spin fishing
  • Small flies are the choice of tackle for Fly rod fishermen
